The District is responsible for the review and approval of erosion and sediment control plans as required by the State sediment control law, Environment Article, Title 4. This law requires that prior to initiating any activity that disturbs 5,000 square feet or involving more than 100 cubic yards of earth, that an erosion and sediment control plan be submitted to and approved by the local soil conservation district.
Erosion & Sedment Control
In most cases, the District is not involved with the review and approval of Stormwater Management (SWM) plans. Per a written agreement, Baltimore County Dept. of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (DEPS) reviews all SWM plans on behalf of the District; however, SWM plans containing small ponds must be forwarded, along with all relevant pond documents, to the District for final signature and processing after DEPS has signed for approval.
When a forest harvest is proposed on private property it is necessary to submit a Forest Harvest Operation - Sediment Control Plan Application to the District for review and approval.
